"ICE"

The pictures below are from my first photo series, "ICE". Inspiration can come from some unusual places. In this case, the cover of our pool had sheets of ice freezing on it and the ice had a series of bubbles suspended inside and ripples from the cover wrinkles. I decided to try putting the ice in front of a colorful background and lighting it up using one or more RBG lights. Each sheet contained a unique set of bubbles and lines that created patterns of light which were each totally unique. For the last picture of the series I wanted to create a rainbow using icicles. I managed to cobble together just enough to get all of the colors in and produce the photo on this page.

Fire and Ice

Created using an orange background and blue light positioned at the right of the photo.

Deep Ice

Taken with a dark background and a blue RBG light. The light was square, but the waves in the ice distorted it to create a more exotic look.

Gold and Green

Taken at night with warm white Christmas lights in the background and a green RGB light shining across from the right. I really liked how the warm white light created a liquid gold effect.

Lava Flash

I planned this one out to use three separate sheets of ice with a orange RGB light behind. The front two sheets were brought in focus while the back one was purposely left out of focus. The result was the bubbles appearing to be coming out of the square light.

Neighborhood of Ice

I took this photo of our neighbors' houses through the ice. The pale colors contrast with the darker bluegreen that frames the photo. At the same time, the clarity in the larger bubbles contrasts with the blur caused by the smaller ones.

Early 90s Throwback

I've always loved how bright green and bright pink look together, especially on a black background. So, when I was choosing two colors to use to light this pile of ice shards those were the first two colors I thought of first.

Frozen Rainbow

To close out my "ICE" Series, I wanted to create a who rainbow of color, and the best way to do it, I thought, was to light up icicles. I waited all winter for the warming and cooling to produce enough icicles to make it happen, and once it did, I hurried and put this together. Not all the icicles wanted to come free intact, so a few are broken in the middle. I just love how the icicles carry the light through like a fiber optic filament.
